Ben Dupré read Classics at Exeter College, Oxford, an experience that instilled in him an enduring passion and fascination for the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome. He pursued a twenty-year career in reference publishing before becoming a full-time writer in 2006. He is the author of two bestselling introductory guides to philosophy, 50 Philosophy Ideas You Really Need to Know (2007) and 50 Big Ideas You Really Need to Know and has also written Places of Destiny: Fifty Places Where History Was Made (2008). He contributed an article on Leonidas, the Spartan commander at Thermopylae, for Andrew Roberts's two-volume survey of the great commanders of history, The Art of War (2008).
