Editorial Director, Corvus
A brilliant opportunity for an Editorial Director to join Corvus, Atlantic Books’ commercial fiction imprint, with a brief to define the shape of the list and to help create a dynamic, enterprising and commercially ambitious vision for its future.
Who are you?
You’re not just interested in genre fiction, you’re a genre junky. You know the bestselling, the prizewinning and the fan favourites. You’ve taken that passion and deep market knowledge and made it into a demonstrably successful editorial career, publishing some of the sharpest and most eye-catching fiction out there, spotting bestsellers and inspiring teams to follow your instincts. You love to find your books where others aren’t always looking, discovering the overlooked gems, betting on the next trend, working with authors to develop IP, getting involved in translation, and always being responsive to what readers are searching for. You publish your books with innovation and entrepreneurialism, acquiring rights, spotting untried routes to market, publishing to international audiences, and being responsive to data and technologically curious. You might come from a corporate or an indie, a traditional publisher or somewhere digitally focussed, but whatever your expertise and origins, if the above sounds like you, we’re keen to hear from you.
What core tasks will you be doing?
Reporting to the Group Fiction Publisher, you’ll be the list’s principal acquiring editor, which means that your genre interests and market expertise will help define the imprint.
Working with the Corvus team, you’ll help to develop an acquisition strategy to take the imprint’s growth to the next stage, in line with the company’s reputation for smart, international, entrepreneurial book-buying.
Working with sales and marketing teams, you’ll help to develop a dynamic, digitally minded strategy for how we publish our genre fiction.
Who are we?
Atlantic Books is one of London’s leading independent publishers. We have a record of 25 years of publishing excellence, during which time we’ve published Nobel Prize laureates, Booker Prize winners, Sunday Times bestsellers and the kind of books that capture the imagination and spark conversations around the globe. In 2025 we were shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards and won the 2025 Impact Award at the Independent Publishing awards. Corvus is Atlantic’s acclaimed genre fiction imprint, born in 2010 as a home for Atlantic Books’ commercial fiction and to satisfy the desires of the digital reader. It publishes across a range of genres, from classic romcoms Crazy Rich Asians and The Kiss Quotient to cult fantasy author Phil Rickman and the award-winning sci-fi writer Chris Beckett; from the number one crime bestsellers of Sam Blake, to the bestselling psychological thrillers of Emma Curtis.
The role is hybrid. We expect staff to come into our offices in Bloomsbury a minimum of twice a week so that they can enjoy the close-knit, vibrant, collaborative spirit of an indie publisher.
If you’d like to apply, please send a CV to Group Fiction Publisher James Roxburgh with a cover letter telling us about one recently published novel that you would love to have published on Corvus, and why you are interested in this role.
