Lieve Joris and Herman Koch take the stage

Meet High Minds from the Low Countries

This week, six of the finest writers from Belgium and the Netherlands – two of whom; Herman Koch and Lieve Joris, are Atlantic authors -  will travel the country as party of the High Impact Tour, sponsored by Flanders House and the Netherland’s Embassy.

For fans who have avidly devoured The Dinner, this is an opportunity to hear Herman Koch, who is not only a writer but an Comedy Actor well known in the Netherlands for his role in the hit TV series Jiskefet.  He is joined by our very own Lieve Joris, one of Europe’s leading travel writers.  Her novel, The Rebel’s Hour, tells the story of morally ambiguous Assani, who forces us to navigate the chaos of a lawless country alongside him as he struggles to survive.

This High Impact tour, also featuring The Dutch Poet Laureate Ramsey Nasr, Peter Terrin, Chika Unigwe and graphic novelist Judith Vanistendael promises to be a unique collaboaration.. Each night a different city, a different theme, a different type of culminating in London where they perform alongside English writers such as Tracy Chevalier, Deborah Moggach and David Mitchell, themselves famous for their writing on Dutch themes.

Each evening, each event, is different and definitely ‘high impact’!  There will be discussions and readings from each author each evening.
For the first 4 evenings in Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool and Sheffield, we have 6 writers; on Friday 18th we are joined by Geert Mak for Norwich and London; on 19th we are joined by our UK writers, David Mitchell, Tracy Chevalier and Deborah Moggach.

This final event will – we happily predict – be stunning. What a line-up of brilliant people - so do tell all your friends and colleagues to come along!
It will also be very different in style from the rest of the tour: it is celebratory evening of ‘Dutch’ music and readings from all 10 writers, backed by our 2 star musicians - Tuur Florizoone and Eric Vloeimans.
